Abstract

294,537. Universelle Cigarettenmaschinen-Fabrik J. C. M³ller & Co- July 25, 1927, [Convention date]. Tobacco. - Cigarette tobacco is sterilized by pneumatically feeding the cut tobacco to the loosening and dust removing plant by a stream of air containing ozone. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, tobacco from a cutting machine 1 passes over a guide 2 and through a hopper 3 into a pneumatic feed pipe 4, to which ozone is admitted at 26. The pipe 4 enters a chamber 5 provided with a conical sieve 6 and with an air outlet pipe 11 leading to a suction far 13 and a receiver 12. Tobacco is discharged fiom the chamber 5 into a receptacle 16 through an opening 15 and flaps 23, 20, 22 opened in turn. In a modification, Fig. 3, ozone is admitted to the pipe 4 through a pipe 27, a circular pipe 28 and branches 29.
