Abstract

294,278. General Electric Co., Ltd., and Collings, J. H. April 21, 1927. Two-part couplings combined with electric switches.-An electric coupling device for connection with lamps, irons, toasters, &c. comprises bayonet or screw sockets 3, 5 and a plug 2, a sliding switch bar 8 carrying a spring-urged trigger 9 controlling a rockable member 10 upon which are mounted the movable contact or contacts 11, flat conductors 17 being provided between the cap and sockets and serving to support the member 10. The body portion 1 may be made of moulded insulating material and may be in half-sections. The trigger 9 comprises a floating bifurcated member adapted to be tilted from a vertical position by springs 12 until its nose passes a projection 23 on the member 10 whereupon the contacts 11, 11<a> close with a snap action. The base-piece 6 has a well 26 against the ends of which the trigger can abut to assist its restoration. In a modification, Fig. 5, the trigger is pivoted to a channel-section slide-bar and is retained in its vertical position by plungers 14. It is tilted by engagement of its shoulder 23<1> with a stop 23 on the slide-bar. The contact strips 17 connect the lamp plug terminals 18 and electric iron &c. socket terminals 5<a> through the switch. Separate contacts 11, 11<a> may be provided for each circuit.
