Condensation products of formaldehyde with urea and thiourea.-In the manufacture of ureaformaldehyde condensation products, the initial water-soluble product is dehydrated as far as possible, and then treated with an acid substance, which may be an acid or any other substance having the properties of an acid when in aqueous solution. A small amount of acid substance may be added to the initial condensation product before the dehydration, and thiourea also may be added at the same time. Preferably, slightly acid formaldehyde (2 mol.) is treated with urea (1 mol.), and when the initial condensation is completed thiourea (0.2 mol.) and a trace of acid (e.g. formic acid) are added. The mixture is then subjected to distillation in vacuo, and just before or just after the distillation is completed, a relatively greater amount of acid is added. The product is then cast or otherwise shaped and is finally heated. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 278,698,
