Abstract
294,019. Depauw, F. Sept,. 30, 1927. Coiling; angular bending. - A machine for coiling metal strips edgewise into hedices for use as screw conveyers &c. comprises a disc 3 mounted on a pin 2 and having a lever 4 rigid therewith. The strip 11 is guided along a slot 15 in an adjustable guide 16 and is received edgewise in a groove 6 in the edge of the disc. A pivoted spring-pressed toothed gripper 7 on the lever grips the edge of the strip when the lever is moved in the direction of the arrow 12, pulling the strip forward and bending it in its own plane round the disc. The helical bending is effected on the reverse movement of the lever by a roller 26 on a member 22 secured adjustably to the disc by the pin and slot device 23, 24, the roller coacting with a slot 25 in the disc through which the strip passes. The pitch of the helix is varied by adjusting the member 22, and the strip is held against backward movement on the reverse stroke of the lever by a pivoted spring pressed gripper 18. A fixed stop 28 and an adjustable stop 29 are provided to limit the movement of the lever, which may be oscillated by hand or suitable mechanism.
