Abstract
293,901. Fletcher, G. H., and Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd. April 14, 1927. Cores.-A plate having an outstanding rim is interposed between the rigid end plate and the laminations of a rotor, and the outstanding rim is seated in a recess in the end plate. The purpose of this construction is to prevent the penetration of dust &c. into the end windings between the laminae and the end plate, and the invention is particularly applicable to traction motors of the commutator type. A plate 13 is preferably spot welded to a number of punchings 15 thicker than the ordinary rotor laminae 6 and is formed with a rim 17 which is rolled into a circumferential channel 19 in the rigid end plate 3. Thejoints may be filled with cement or enamel to render them impervious to dust &c. which may be carried through the ventilating ducts 9, 10 in the core. Prior to assembly of the rotor, the plate 13 with its packet of punchings 15 may be impregnated with cement or enamel.
