Refrigerating, vacuum machines and processes for.-In a vacuum refrigerating machine having an evaporator 2 containing methyl alcohol enclosed in a refrigerator for iced goods containing an agitator driven by a water-turbine 14, the vaporized refrigerant flows from the evaporator through a pipe 5 into a water-jacketed absorber 1 and is dissolved in water supplied through a pipe 9, the solution being removed against atmospheric pressure by a water jet pump 7 supplied from the main. The evaporator is supplied with refrigerant from a tank 3 open to the atmosphere through a tube 4, and the water supply pipe 9 to the absorber communicates through an air separator 10 with a vessel 12 connected to the main. A second water jet pump 8 is provided for removing vapour and air from the absorber.
