Abstract
293,594. Carter, B. C. Dec. 19, 1925. Lighting burners by fulminating- pellet and like devices.-In a hollow projectile in which fuel contained under pressure in an annular chamber 9 issues through an orifice 11 on the operation of a valve 21 by a driver plate 26, the operation of the valve 21 actuates the firing bolt 29 of a percussion ignition device 12. Fig. 5 shows the use of a striker 30 operated by the explosion of the propellant charge to explode a percussion cap 32 adjacent a " thermit " or similar pellet 33. The heat generated at the pellet 33 fuses or releases a sealing disc 34 thereby opening the fuel conduit 35 and igniting the escaping fuel. Alternatively the fuel may be ignited by the explosion of the propellant charge acting through leak holes.
