Abstract
292,870. Rowell, H. S. Jan. 19, 1928. Securing toothed wheels on shafts. - Toothed wheels, particularly adapted for securing to shafts, such as to the crank shafts of internal-combustion engines for driving the cam shafts, without disturbing adjacent elements, such as the flywheel, are built up of or comprise a number of overlapping portions. Two pairs of segments 2, 3, Figs. 1 and 2, with their spacings 4, 5, which may be filled with wood 11, at right angles, are connected together by axially arranged bolts 6 - - 9, which may be of taper form to press the segments circumferentially upon the wood filling 11 and so tighten them upon the shaft. Keys spaced at right angles in the shaft engage in keyways 12 and abut respectively against the segments 2, 3 to prevent axial movement of the wheel. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which one 17 of each pair of segments is of sufficient size only to permit passage of the larger segment over the shaft.
