Armouring cables.-A trailing cable for use with portable machines such as cranes and coal-cutters is formed with a spirally wound rope or cable d embedded in the rubber sheathing c, the summit of the rope &c. convolutions on the outer side being level with the surface of the rubber sheathing. The rope &c. is wound on the rubber sheathing before vulcanization. Rubber compound is then added to fill the interstices in the rope convolutions either by extrusion or by lapping a rubber layer on the outside of the rope. A tape is then tightly wound on the outside to press the rope into the sheathing during vulcanization.
