797,500. Flexible hoses. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., HOULTRAM, H., WOODWARD, J. H., EVANS, C. W., NORMALAIR, Ltd., GLOVER, D. T., and LOVELL, D. C. L. Aug. 29, 1956 [Sept. 2, 1955], No. 25220/55. Class 99(2). A flexible air-tight tube for use with respiratory equipment comprises conductors 5 ... 9 circumferentially spaced within its walls, projecting beyond its ends and having flexible cores of, e.g., nylon of 20-30 lbs. breaking strain, wrapped with copper tinsel strips and cotton covered. Two of the conductors may be screened by copper tinsel braid. The tube is built up on a mandrel by applying a rubber impregnated fabric strip 1, rubber coated both sides, to form a lining tube over which is laid a wire helix 2 which is covered by a lamina 3 similar to 1. A rayon filler cord 4 is run between the interstices of the wire helix to corrugate the lamina 3, and the assembly is consolidated by wrapping and partial vulcanization, after which the wrapping is removed and the conductors are placed on the tube and helically wound at a greater pitch than the wire helix and the tube completed by a further covering 10 similar to laminae 1, 3. A further similar lamina 11 is optional, and the assembled tube is again wrapped with fine linen string and an outer cover and consolidated by complete vulcanization after which the outer cover is removed then the string and inner fine linen wrapping leaving the tube to be removed from the mandrel. In a modification, the tube can be waterproofed by adding a rubber covering. Specification 797,499 is referred to.
