814,962. Corrugated hoses. MœNDENER GUMMIWAREN-FABRIK GEB KUNTH G.m.b.H. Nov. 10, 1955 [Nov. 10, 1954], No. 32215/55. Class 99(2). In a corrugated hose with helically arranged folds and a wire coil in the inner and/or outer folds, the coil is secured in grooves formed in the folds of the hose body by protective rubber material which is securely connected to the hose body by vulcanization. In Fig. 1, a rubber cord 2 is coiled round a core bar 1. A protective fabric strip 4 impregnated with rubber but not vulcanized or a rubber band is applied on the cord. Then the spring wire 5 is applied and after this operation an additional protective strip 6 is wrapped around so that the wire 5 is completely enclosed. The composite cord and wire can be braided or a rubber layer 7 applied. Both braiding and applying a rubber layer may be employed. Finally vulcanization takes place. In Fig. 2 a flat section wire coil 11 is used. Protective layers 13 and 14 may be provided. The protective layers are connected to the hose material by vulcanization. Instead of the strips 13 and 14 an unvulcanized rubber tape may be used which has been provided on the wire before applying the wire coil 11 and which later on is connected with the material of the corrugated hose by vulcanization . Several layers may be employed if desired. In Fig. 4. the wire coil 15 has its cross-section disposed with its longer side at right angles to the axis of the hose. A very light and thin walled hose is shown in Fig. 6. It is particularly for air conditioning units. Thin rubberized fabric layers 16, 17 are employed. These layers are joined together by vulcanization. Additional protective layers or packing members enclosing the coil may be employed between the fabric layers or a coat enveloping the coil 18 may be provided. In a modification the wire coil is disposed in the inner folds. One wire coil each may be used in the outer folds, Fig. 6, as well as in the inner folds Fig. 7 (not shown). The wire may have its section disposed with its longer side at right angles to the axis of the hose.
