Abstract
292,592. Bethune, G. S. P. de. June 24, 1927, [Convention date]. Emulsions, making.-An emulsifying or mixing apparatus comprises a high-speed shaft carrying a number of radial members each working in a cell the profile of which is formed by the rotation of a semi-ellipse or similar curve about its shorter axis; the rotating members may be formed as vanes or double convex members and the cells communicate by openings which may have serrated edges, or the walls may have a series of perforations increasing in size outwardly. The double-convex members may also be provided with a similar series of perforations, and valved passages may be provided either for the escape of gas generated in the mixing process or for the supply of additional ingredients. The materials are supplied by a pipe 27 to the first cell 7 in which radial beaters 14 on the shaft 4 rotate. The walls between adjacent cells are cut away, as shown at 10, and the communicating passages may be serrated, as at 18, or a number of perforations 19 may be provided. The rotating members 15, of double convex shape, may also be provided with similar perforations 16. The material is discharged by a. pipe 28 and valved pipes 22 are provided for the supply of further ingredients or the escape of gases. A jacket 21 is provided for heating.
