Combing-machines. - In an arrangement for weighting the top detaching-roller in a Nasmith combing-machine, in which the weight is suspended directly by a main wire and is held forward out of contact with the beam by a second wire, the effective weight on the roller is made adjustable by attaching the main wire C to studs or holes b in a projection B on the weight hook A. The points b are at different distances from the centre a about which the hook A moves. The second wire D is attached to a lever F, which is connected to the weight hook by an arm F<1>, having an open-ended slot engaging a stud a<1>. When the lever F is raised the hook A is swung round to take the weight off the roller. The wire D may be attached to points on a fixed bracket or on the lever F to secure the adjustment. The points are arranged to alter the angle of inclination of the wire D, the effective weight being the greatest when this wire is horizontal.
