This invention relates to combing machines of the Nasmith type and more particularly tothe improvements in the weighting of the top detaching rollers thereof ofthe type in which a weight is suspended directly from the detaching roller weight hook by a main wire and is held forward out of contact with the beam by a second wire. j
According to the invention the efi'ective weight on the rollers is made adjustable either by attaching the main wire carrying the weight at difierent distances from the pivotal centre of the hook or by attaching the end of the second wire at ditl'erent positions to alter the angle of such wire with the horizontal so that with a constant weight on the end of the main wire, the effective weight on the rollers can be adjusted.
The invention will be described with refer ence to the accompanying drawings Fig. l is a View of one form of the inven tion showing the detaching roller weight hook in position for applying weight to the roller.

In the form of the invention shown in Figs.
1 and 2 the detaching roller weight hook A is provided with a projection B having a number of apertures b at different distances from the pivotal centrea of the hook, in which apertures the end of the main wire C carrying the weight V can be attached.
The end of the second wire D by which the weight 7 is heldtorward out of contact with the beam E instead of being attached to a fixed point, is attached to a pivoted arm or lever F so that as the detaching roller weight hook A moves upwards, the end of the second wire D will move upwards approximately the same distance so that with whatever aperture 7) the end of the main weight carrying wire C may be in engagement, the weight will be able to follow the upward movement of the hook. The pivoted arm or lever F to which the end of the wire D is attached is preferably the operating lever of the weight releasing motion. The latter consists of a bell-crank or two armed lever F pivoted on a bracket 6 carried by the beam E. The upper arm ofthe lever is pivotally attached to a connecting arm F forked or slotted .atits upper end and engaging a pin a carried on the hook A. The lower arm of the lever F serves as an operating handle forraising the detaching roller weight hook A,
The weight VV may be attached directly to the lower end of the main weight carrying wire or it may be connected thereto by a third wire suspended vertically from the end thereof.
In the form of the, invention shown in Figs.
3 and 4; the adjustment is effected by attaching the wire D at diii erent points in frontof the beam E and below the tube to alter the angle of the wire D with the horizontal, since the more nearly the wire D approaches the horizontal, the greater will be the effective weight on the detaching roller weight hook.
The attaching points may be arranged on a fixed bracket but they are preferably arranged as shown vat 7, f and f on the pivoted bell-crank weight relieving lever F of the construction described above as such an rangementaffords a wider range of adjustment.
A suitable projection B is formed on the detaching roller weight hook A so that the main wire C which carries the weight WV may be attached to it at a point which will afl'ord the necessary leverage for a given weight (say 25 lbs.) to give the minimum weight required when the second wire D which holds the weight forward away from the beam is anchored at its uppermost point f of attachment.

\Vhat I claim as my invention and desire to protect by Letters Patent is 1. In weighting mechanism of the type referred to for the top detaching roller-s of combing machines of the Nasmith type the combination with the detaching roller weight hook and a weight of a wire carrying the weight, a second wire attached to the first wire to hold the weight out of contact with the beam and means for varrying' the effective weight on the detaching rollers.

In weighting mechanism of the type referred to for the top detaching rollers of combing machines of the Nasmith type the combination with the detaching roller and a weight attached to the first wire to hold the weight out of contact with the beam, a bracket mounted on the beam, a wei ht releasing lever pivotally mounted on the bracket and extendin forward from the beam and devices on the lever at different heights to which the end of the second wire can be anchored so that the angle of the wire can be altered to vary the effective weight on the detachingrollers.
