HARNESS sror MOTION.
Application fil ed February 12, 1920 Serial m. 87,784.
This/invention relates to looms, audits purpose'is to stop the. loom in case either the means of suspending or holding up the harnessbreaks or becomes slack, or the means for pullingit or, holding it down breaks or becomes slack As shown in the drawings and specification, ;it isvapplied to what is known as the Knowles head motion but it may be used on any type of loom where bottom straps are ,used to pull the harness down. r I amawarethat various meanshave been devised for stopping a loom whenthe overhead suspending connection breaks and the harness drops upon suitable trip mechanism,
' buttliis device will operate when either the top or bottom harness straps break or be come loose. 1
In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a side elevation showing those parts of a loom only which are necessary to understand my invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section looking from the left, on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an elevation of one of my drop hooks.
Figs. 4, 5 and 6 are diagrammatic views showing the connection of various parts and what occurs when certain of the controlling straps or members break. I
Fig. 7 is an elevation similar to Fig. 1, showing in detail a modification of the connections between the interfering finger and the trip lever.
Fig. 8 shows hook.
In the drawings, C represents a loom in which there is a warp beam 1, a whip roll 2, cross girt 3 and oscillating feelers 4, 4', in operative relation with drop wires 5, all of well known types.
The oscillating feelers are connected with mechanism of well known character Whereby when an oscillating feeler isstopped, the loom is stopped by suitable connecting mechanism.
Each harness is represented by D, and each harness is supported by one or more top harness straps such as 20 which pass over loose pulleys 21 andare attached to one arm of the harness jack 22. I
At the bottom there are bottom harness straps such as 23, 28, which are connected and attached to another strap 24 which passes over a loose pulley 25. Another bota modified form of drop tom harness strap 26 connects with the other arm of harness loose pulley 27.
kept taut and level by 'the' suitableadjus't ment of the top and bottom harness straps.
,30 passes, and at thetop a hook 41 which when the hook is held up in normal position byits wire 30 rests j ust over the long arm 50 of a trip lever A. v i
Each drop hook B passes through suit able guides in a guidebox 45 which is shown as attached to cross girt 3, and as having a lever supporting arm 46 onwhichat 51 trip lever pivots.
G represents an interfering finger which is carried by a curved arm pivoted at 61 to'a suitable bracket 62fix'edto a stationary part of the loom frame 6. i i
, This finger G is so positioned thatit can move up in front of one of the oscillating feelers 4 and stop its oscillation, but is ordinarily held down as by means of a counterweight 7 0 forming part of connecting means jack'22and passesover a Between the endsof thest'raps 2 4 and 26, I .is a horizontal wire '30 which is'ordinarily H which connectsthe interfering finger with the short end 52 of trip lever Thisconnect-ing means includes a connecting rod 71 pivoted at 72 to arm 60, and fearries the counterweight 70. It, preferably also by means of a turnbuckle 73, is attached to the end of short arm 52.
By means of the counterweight 70 and turnbuckle 73, and by changing the weight of 70, an interfering finger Gris normal] held out of and below the path of an oscil lating feeler 4 and the long arm 50 of trip lever A is held up just under the hooks 41, 41 of the various drop hooks B. i v Fig. 4shows the normal position of the parts while Fig. 5 shows what happens if one of the lower harness'straps such as 23 breaks, while Fig. 6 shows what occurs if one of the top harness straps such as 20 breaks.
In either case, the horizontal wire 30 con-- The Weight of hook B will depress long arm and lift short arm 52 of trip lever A and thereby raise interfering finger G into the path of an oscillating feeler 4, thereby stopping the loom; v
As shown at F in Fig. 8 I may use a drop hook F which has a hook 90 at the top but at the bottom a slot 91 instead of a hole.
As shown in Fig. 7, I may, instead of connecting means H, use connecting means L in which the interfering finger is carriedat the end of a slide rod 81, slidable on one of the vertical members or a post 7 secured to the backgirt 8 of the loom. As shown 81 has slots 83 through which pass guide screws 84 allowing it to slide. 7
Short arm 52 passes through a loop 85 on rod '81.
The straps 20, 23, 24, 26, pulleys 21, 25, 27; harness jack 22 and 'WiIGS 30 maybe consider'ed collectively as harness controlling means and are indicated by M.
I claim:
1. In a loom having an oscillating feeler so connected that when it is stopped, the
loom stops, a harness supported at the top by top harness straps and held at the bottom by bottom harness straps and a horizontal wire; the combination of a drop'hook supported'by said wire over one arm of a trip lever; said trip lever; an interfering finger; means connecting the interfering finger with the other arm of the trip lever of such character that when a drop hook drops with the Wire the interfering finger is movedin the path of the oscillating feeler and the loom is stopped. i i
2. In a loom having an oscillating feeler so connected that when it is stopped, the V loom stops, a harness, harnesscontrollingmeans including a horizontal wire; the'oom bination of a drop hook supported by said wire over one arm of a trip lever; said trip lever; an interfering finger; means connecting the interfering finger with the trip lever of such character that when a drop hook drops with the wire, the interfering finger is moved in the path of the oscillating feeler and the loom is stopped.
