Abstract
290,615. Rottger, G. May 17, 1927, [Convention. date]. Sterilizing milk &c. - Apparatus for pasteurizing and subsequently cooling milk and other liquids comprises a container 1 for the liquid, having a projecting upper rim 2 by which it can be fitted tightly on the brim first of a pasteurizing vessel 3 and subsequently of an earthenware cooling vessel 10, so as to hang freely within these vessels. The container 1 has handle 8 and a lid 5 with a thermometer 7. The vessel 3 which contains water is heated until the milk reaches the pasteurizing temperature, about 62‹ C., and the heat source is then withdrawn the water keeping the milk at the required temperature for about 20 minutes. The container 1 is then withdrawn and after cooling in air or in cold water is placed in vessel 10 in which is cold water. The vessel 10 has porous walls through which the water percolates and evaporates on the outer surface, keeping container 1 cool. The vessels 1, 3 can be used separately in the kitchen.
