290,578. Preparation Industrielle des Combustibles. May 14, 1927, [Convention date]. Balancing reciprocating parts of machinery.- In a device for balancing the inertia forces of two oppositely-reciprocated sieves or other masses of the kind in which a piston connected to one member compresses a gas in a cylinder 16, Fig. 4, connected to the other, the two ends of the cylinder are connected by a bye-pass pipe 26 of small gauge and either helical or provided with wings for cooling. The cylinder comprises two end portions 19, 20 which are at an angle to, and of less cross-section than, the main portion, and in which the gas is confined by a liquid directly acted on by the piston. In the application to sieves, two superposed sieves 1, 2, Fig. 1, of equal mass are suspended by ash supports 12, 13 and reciprocated in opposite directions by pairs of ash connecting-rods 3, 5 connected by cross-pieces 14. 15, Fig. 3. The cross-piece 15 carries the cylinder 16, Fig. 4, with the two branches 19, 20 of smaller crosssection. The piston 16 is connected to the crosspiece 14 and compresses the air at the upper end of the branches 19, 20 through the medium of a fluid such as glycerine. A regulating cock 27 may be provided in the bye-pass pipe 26.
