Discharging.-The head 3 of a discharging-ram for horizontal coke ovens 5 is provided with a guiding cap 4 which is arranged at the upper end so that contact with the oven walls 5a occurs only at the thicker parts above the heating-flues 6, Fig. 3. The cap 4 is formed with a rearwardly extending tapered extension 4a, which serves to guide the ram 3 during the initial part of its withdrawal from the fully-extended position.
