Winding apparatus on motor vehicles.-In motor-driven windlasses for agricultural purposes the power exerted by the motor is proportional to the increasing diameter of the loaded drum as the coiling proceeds. The lever 15 bears by its weight on the run 7<a> of the rope leading to the drum 3, and automatically drops as successive layers are coiled on the drum. The dropping movement is communicated by linkage to a valve 19 which controls the supply of compressed air to the engine cylinders from a reservoir charged by a pump driven by the engine. The arrangement of drum and driving-gear are similar to that shown in Specification 142,690.
