Charging. - A charging-h÷pper for gas-producers or other furnaces comprises a lower cylindrical portion e divided, by helicoidal partitions, into compartments at the upper and lower ends of which are arranged rotary plates g, h respectively, having diametrically opposite quadrantshaped apertures. The plates g, h are carried by a vertical shaft, the upper plate having secured to its periphery a toothed ring c which meshes with a pinion b driven by a shaft k. The shaft carrying the rotary plates has secured to its upper ends stirrers f for agitating the charge in the upper part a of the hopper and to its lower end a vertically adjustable distributor i constituted by an horizontal arm having an inclined face m.
