Moving-chamber apparatus for granular materials.-Apparatus for distributing measured volumes of powder into water comprises one or more canisters for the powder fitted with a compartment in the base in which a plate fitted with adjustable pockets is reciprocated about a centre to distribute the powder, the plate being operated by a tip bucket. As shown in Figs. I and III, the tip bucket j, mounted on a spindle n, operates a vertical link p which actuates a bell-crank m connected with a link k. The link is connected to an oscillating plate g which rides between two plates b, b<1> at the base of the powder container a. The plate g is provided with two pockets c, c<1>, adjustable by means of screw-operated filling pieces r, r<1>, and co-operating with staggered apertures in the upper and lower plates b, b<1> to separate predetermined amounts of powder. The plate g is fitted with a radial member u operating a pawl w engaging a ratchet x on a central shaft h carrying stirrers t. The tip bucket may comprise a single vessel acting in one direction, cr two vessels and be double-acting, and more than one canister may be employed for the powder. Fig. IX shows another form in which the plate is provided with two pockets c<2>, c<3> co-operating with apertures c<4>, c<5>, and discharges twice at each complete reciprocation. In the case of two canisters the plates may be fitted with intermeshing gear-teeth for operation together.
