Razors, safety. - A safety razor has end plates 8 held apart by three rods 9 and which pivotally support a blade holder 5 and a spindle 13 carried by cranked links 10. Balls 2 held in spring plates 3, 4 fixed to the holder 5 hold the razor blade 1. which is of the thick back type, in position. A guard 20 is carried by arms 19 having hooks and stops for the blade 1. the arms 19 being, pivoted about a screw 14 and rivet 16 and adapted to be clamped in shaving position, Fig. 1, by a nut 15. One of the cranked links 10 and a toothed sector 7 are secured to the rivet 16 so that. they can oscillate together, the sector 7 being geared with a toothed wheel 6 fixed to the end of the holder 5. An adapter 11 surrounding the spindle 13 receives the screwed end of a handle 12. the end of the screwed part pressing against the spindle 13 so that the handle can be locked in any desired angular position. To strop the blade 1 the nut 15 is released, the guard 20 is dropped clear of the blade, the strop is passed over the outer rods 9 and below the central rod 9 and the handle 12 is moved so that the blade 1 is drawn up and down the strop. At the end of each stroke the blade is reversed by the action of the cranked links 10, the sector 7 and pinion 6. The balls 2 permit the blade to have a slight swivelling action so that it can bed itself evenly on the strop. The balls 2 may be replaced by pins with rounded ends. or, if the holder is of sheet m-etal, by pressed out projections.
