Abstract
288,674. Novelly, R. Jan. 1, 1927. Coating.-Articles of base metals or alloys, for example iron, are protected against corrosion by a coating on one or both sides of a steel alloy containing 6-25 per cent of chromium, 0.5-20 per cent of nickel and up to 1 per cent of carbon. The coating may be carried out in any convenient manner. In an example a shell of malleable iron is covered on both sides with a thin sheet of an alloy containing 16.5 per cent of chromium, 10.2 per cent of nickel and 0.15 per cent of carbon. The edges of the three layers are then combined by bending up or flanging and the sheet is heated before passing it to the drawing machine for converting it into vessels of various kinds. The composite metal is used for the manufacture of stoves and ovens, radiators, car and carriage fittings, roofing sheets, cages, ships, aeroplanes, &c.
