Moulding by dipping.-In moulding rubber &c. articles by dipping, the mould is treated on the side which is to take the deposit with materials which facilitate the agglomeration of the rubber &c. from an aqueous dispersion such as natural preserved or concentrated latex, with or without fillers, sulphur, accelerators, &c. In examples, a porous mould is dipped in a solution of calcium chloride before use, and the pressure on the inside of the mould is reduced or that on the outside increased. This pressure difference may be maintained during subsequent vulcanization. The moulds may be partially glazed, the deposit on the glazed portion being thinner than the rest. Details are given as to the times, pressures, &c. necessary in practice.
