287,862. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. March 24, 1927, [Convention date]. Apparatus for making filaments; cellulose xanthates, processes for making filaments from. -For the manufacture by the centrifugal method of artificial silk threads of small total titre, say 120 deniers or less, there is used a reduced speed of spinning of about 25-35 metres per min., a reduced speed of revolution of the spinning box so as to give a thread of 120 or less turns per metre and a spinning box of an increased diameter such that orderly spinning is maintained. In the case of threads composed of filaments of 3 deniers or less, the speed of spinning and the rate of revolution of the box are further reduced and the diameter of the box is still further increased while its speed of rotation is decreased. In order to obviate the production of threads showing an excessive extensibility, it is advisable to subject the thread between the spinning nozzle and the spinning box, and preferably between the nozzle and the godet, to mechanical strain by passage over the thread guide, preferably resiliently mounted. It is convenient to use a spinning machine in which the speed of the box can be varied according to the diameter of the box. Specification 232,219 is referred to.
