Abstract

287,770. Marks, E. C. R., (Harnischfeger Corporation). Aug. 3, 1927. Directing and adjustably supporting endless-belt conveyers; driving-gear; sectional framework; portable conveyers; antifouling guards; troughing- rollers. - In a trenching machine of the type in which the buckets of an excavator 2 discharge on to a conveyer 3 which extends transversely of the machine, the frame 4 of the conveyer comprises a number of hinged sections 5 which can be locked in various relative angular positions. Each hinge 6 comprises a pair of members 7, 8, Fig. 3, provided with apertured ears 10, 15 through which is passed the hinge pin 17. Lock lugs 11, 16 provided on the hinge members have a number of apertures 18, 19 at different distances from the pin 17 and at different angular intervals. By the insertion of a pin 20 through one or the other sets of aligned apertures, the sections of the conveyer may be locked in various relative positions. The frame has side walls 26, Fig. 5, with inturned flanges 27 and rests on the hubs 33 of rollers 32 mounted on shaft 31 which are carried by frame members 28 mounted on uprights 29 secured to the frame members 30 of the machine. The frame is kept down by rollers 35 which engage the flanges 27 and are mounted in supports 36 clamped to the shaft 31. Sleeves 38 prevent the lateral displacement of the rollers. A channel member 41 is secured to each end of the frame 4 by an angle member 42 and is provided with brackets in which barrel-shaped driving- drums 46 are mounted. These drums are rotated by an endless chain 55 which is driven by a sprocket 57. The slack of the lower run of this chain is taken up by a sprocket 59. The frame is stiffened by transverse angle members 43, to one of which is anchored the hoisting cable 90. The belt 47 is formed into a trough by roller assemblies 48, each of which comprises a central horizontal roller 52 and upwardly and outwardly extending lateral rollers 53. Deflectors 80, Fig. 5, throw clear of the conveyer any material spilt from the upper run. The frame is adjusted longitudinally by a chain 60, Fig. 4, the ends of which are connected by spring devices 61 to the ends of the frame. The chain 60 is engaged by a driving-sprocket 63 which is rotatable in either direction.
