Abstract
287,047. Rondel, F., and Iochum, G. March 12, 1927, [Convention date]. Slaughtering.-In a spring actuated slaughtering gun, the penetrating member 10 is separate from the hammer 15 which is driven forward by two independent spring systems, the springs 19 being tension springs and the spring, or springs, 20 being compression springs. The casing 1 has a screw cap 2 at its upper end and a cap 3 at its lower end which holds a disc 4, to which the tension springs 19 are secured in place. A safety cap 5 is removably attached to the cap 3 by a spring 6 which is released by pressing in the knob 7. The hammer 15 has projections 24 which slide in grooves 23, and has an extension 16 which ends in a ring or eye 17. More than one spring 20 may be used, the springs then being arranged 'concentrically, adjacent springs being of opposite hands. Semicylindrical members 21 are clamped on the casing 1 by screws 22, the members 21 carrying a handle 25 containing a spring-pressed trigger 26 which releases a detent 27 from under the head of the hammer 15. The gun is set by placing it on the device shown in Fig. 5, the cap 2 being held by brackets 34 whilst a hook on a chain 36 is engaged with the eye 17. By a handle 39 and pulley 37, the hammer is moved against the springs 19, 20 until it is held by the detent 27. The gun is then removed and brought into operation. The penetrating member 10 is turned, during its advance, by projections 11 engaging helical grooves 9. The hammer is arrested by a two-part ring 30, held in position by a sleeve 31, engaging a spring washer 32. The end of the member 10 is bevelled, sharpened and provided with a cleaning slot 14.
