Abstract

286,664. Budd Manufacturing Co., E. G., (Assignees of Ledwinka, J.). March 8,1927, [Convention date]. Bodies.-A roof structure for road vehicles is formed of sheet metal and is perforated throughout substantiallv its whole area. Downwardly pressed bracing ribs are provided without perforations. The margin of the roof is turned inwardly as at 4 and the flange is adapted to rest on and be secured to filler blocks 9 carried by the side headers 8 of the body. The front flange is secured to the windscreen headers and the rear flange 4 rest on an inturned flange 6 of the tonneau panelling which flange is then clinched over. The fabric covering 7 is secured to the roof by means of its edges being gripped between the flange 4 and the body. The roof is formed by first stamping or punching the apertures and then forming the ribs and bending the roof to the desired configuration by pressing operations.
