Abstract
285,662. Schantz, C. F. March 12, 1927. Electrodes; electrolytes. - In a galvanic battery, a solution of cuprous chloride in hydrochloric acid or in an alkali chloride solution is used as the catholyte and sulphuric acid as the anolyte, the cathode being copper and the anode iron, the electrolytes being separated by a porous porcelain diaphragm. Copper is deposited in the cathode, ferric sulphate being formed in the diaphragm spaces, whence it can be recovered.
