529,398. Electrodeposition of manganese, CONSOLIDATED MINING & SMELTING CO. OF CANADA, Ltd. May 17, 1939, No. 14748. Convention date, July 14, 1838. [Class 41] Manganese is deposited, electrolytically from sulphate or chloride solutions containing hydroxy amines such as hydroxylamine, mono-, di-, or tri-ethanolamine or diethylaminoethanol, which form complex ions with manganese. The electrolysis may be carried out in a non- diaphragm cell with circulation of the electrolyte or in a diaphragm cell in which case sulphur dioxide or other reducing agent may be added to the catholyte. The manganese content of the electrolyte may be replenished by treatment with manganous oxide or carbonate and impurities such as copper, zinc, iron, arsenic, cobalt and nickel are removed by treatment with powdered manganese.
