Abstract

285,212. Fisher, W. H. Jan. 1, 1927. Expanding tables.-An extensible table with 'draw-out end leaves comprises, as shown in Fig. 2, a central part 6 and two rectangular leaves 1<a>, 1<b> supported each by two parallel bars 2a, 2b respectively. The bars slide in recesses 3 in the rails 4, 5, and each has two inclines 9<a>, 9<b>, and recessed ends 10<a>, 10<b>, with stops 11<a>, 11<b>, such that when a leaf, say the leaf 1<b>, is drawn out, the inclines 9<b> coact with the rails 4, 5 and the leaf rises. When the leaf reaches its outermost postion, the central part 6 falls into the recessed parts 10<a>, 10<b> of the bars 2a, 2b. The top 6 is attached loosely to blocks 7 by pins 14 so as to be capable of slight vertical movement, which is effected by cam surfaces 13<a>, 13b on the bars 2a, 2<b> in the outward movements of the leaf. To effect the inward movements the top 6 is raised by a crank 19, which is operated by a handle 18, and has a counterweight 20. When the leaves are pushed in, these surfaces 13a, 13<b> rest in recesses in blocks or skids on the underside of the part 6; when the leaves are pulled out, the surfaces rest in recesses 15 in the underside of the part 6.
