Switches; retarding; actuating; indicators.- A switch, closing and opening of which is dependent upon movement of a member in one direction and applicable to railway signal work, is designed to require a prolonged effort to move it from one position to a second but can be quickly moved to the first position from the second. Contacts 2 on a slide are normally disengaged from fixed contacts 8, whereas contacts 4 are in engagement with corresponding contacts 8. A pin 9 on the slide engages between a pair of cam plates 16, 17 carried by a worm-wheel driven by a worm rotated by a handle 33. Initial rotation of the handle causes the slide to be moved half way thereupon disengaging contacts 4 from contacts 8; after prolonged rotation the slide is moved the remaining distance to engage contacts 2 with contacts 8. Further small rotation of the handle 33 moves the slide 1 to its initial position. A ratchet on the worm-wheel prevents reverse rotation of the handle, and an indicator attached to the worm wheel moves over the dial so as to show the position of the switch.
