Abstract

236,363. British Lighting & Ignition Co., Ltd., and Hutton, J. C. June 23, 1924. Switchboards; switches, locking and unlocking; handles.-In a motor-car switchboard of the type in which the operation of a key-controlled ignition switch is arranged to unlock the switches controlling the lighting and starting circuits when a, key D, Fig. 7, is inserted in a rotary barrel lock B disposed within the boss of the lighting switch control handle H its end E engages a slot F in a sliding locking bolt G and also engages a slot in the member H attached to the ignition switch rotary contact disc K. On rotation of the key D the disc K is moved to complete the ignition circuit and the locking plate G is raised, thus bring its projections Q out of one of the locking recesses P in the lighting switch operating-member O, Fig. 4,. and also raising the upper side of a slot R from an annular groove in the starting switch, push-button W. In the raised position of the plate G the starting circuit may therefore be closed at contacts T as the button W can clear the side of the slot R and the lighting circuits may be varied by rotating the handle A secured to the member 0 which has projections N engaging the sides of the rotary insulating member L carrying contacts M moving over corresponding fixed contacts on the plate V. Where two systems of ignition are employed the ignition switch contacts are arranged so that one circuit is completed when the key D has passed through 90‹ and the second when through 180‹ the plate G being released from its locking position in either case. In a modified form a pivoted locking plate may be employed.
