Abstract

Heating by electricity.-Are welding or cutting is effected by currents having a relative phase displacement obtained from a single phase supply. The electrode comprises conductors 1, 2 insulated from one another and connected to the supply transformer 6 through a reactance 4 and resistance 3 both of which may be adjustable. Capacity may be used to produce the relative phase displacement if desired. The electrode, Fig. 5, mav comprise a core 11 separated from a sheath 12 by flux insulation 13. The holder comprises a notched conducting tube 15 fitted with a central conductor 14 insulated therefrom and contacting with a bared portion of the core 11. The relative phase displacement may be obtained automaticlly by supplying such an electrode with high frequency current. A modified electrode consists of flat conducting strips separated by flux insulation.
