Abstract
284,307. Granigg, B. Jan. 28, 1927, [Convention date]. Magnetic and like separators. - In a process for separating materials of different permeabilities or dielectric constants, the materials are passed through an electromagnetic or electrostatic field and disturb the field, the induced currents thereby created, or the dielectric constant, after amplification if necessary, being utilized to direct the materials in different directions. As shown in Fig. 2 (Cancelled), different materials 4, 5 are carried by a band 6 through a magnetic field produced by field windings 1, 2 on a core 3, Fig. 1 (Cancelled). The material 4 passing through the field causes an increase in the magnetic flux which operates a relay to turn a flap 8 into the positions. A-A and the material 4 is' directed in the direction I. After the material 4 has passed the flap moves back into the position B-B, and the material 5 passing through the field does not cause an increase in the flux, the flap 8 remains in the position B-B and directs the material in the direction II. Instead of the band 6, a rotary sorting table 5, Fig. 11, may be used, provided with pockets constituted by flaps 4 tiltable by means operated by the magnetic field to remove the material from the pockets. In another form, the materials slide down an inclined shoot which is provided with flaps adapted to be displaced by the increase of current caused by the deformation of the field. The coils 1, 2 may be inserted in separate oscillatory circuits which are coupled with one another either electrostatically or electromagnetically, suitable amplifying circuits being diagrammatically illustrated.
