Abstract

Cases. - In switch and like casings in which conductors are carried through holes 4, 5 in a plate 3 of magnetic material, means, such as inserts 6 of non- magnetic 'steel, are provided to reduce eddy currents in the plate by reducing the permeability of the magnetic path round the conductors without materially reducing the mechanical strength of the plate. The inserts may be formed by casting or welding non-magnetic steel into gaps formed in the plate. In the case of polyphase apparatus, barriers of non-magnetic material may also be welded in position between conductors of different phases. Specification 262,521 is referred to.
