Abstract

283,273. Stothert &. Pitt, Ltd., and Pitt, R. B. Oct. 6, 1926. Auxiliary ropes; driving- gear for endless conveyers.- In conveyers of the kind in which a plurality of endless parallel ropes support and convey a belt, trays, buckets, &c. the ropes are passed over independently mounted sheaves and means are provided for disengaging automatically the ropes from each other and from the belt, &c. at some point of the travel of the conveyer to compensate for unequal stretching of the ropes. The ropes 4 are normally clamped betwen jaws 11, formed on cambered axles 12 secured to the belt, and jaws 13 formed on arms 14 pivotally mounted on the axles 12 and provided with wheels 15 which run normally on guide tracks 16, 17. As the belt nears the end of the conveyer, Fig. 3, the wheels come on to an inclined part 18 of the track 16 and the jaws are opened. At the end of the conveyer the wheels are first guided by the curved part 18<1> of the track, and then allowed to drop on to the guide bars 20. The arms and wheels are now in the position shown in Fig. 5. The curved part 19 of the track returns the wheel, &c. to the position shown in Fig. 4.
