Abstract

283,071. Bennett, F. I., and Hawker Engineering Co., Ltd., H. G. June 21, 1927. Jib cranes; shear legs.-Workshop apparatus for lifting either heavy or light parts of aircraft comprises shear legs provided with lifting tackle 4, 10 for raising, say, the engine or the nose of the machine, and with an overhanging jib and tackle 17, 19 for lifting, say, the wing. As shown, the apparatus is collapsable and portable. The legs 1 are connected with the back stay 2 by pivots 21, 5, Fig. 4, which permit of folding the legs and stay to lie side by side, and the jib 12 is pivoted at 16 to fold back upon the stay 2. The legs are mounted upon a triangular base 24 - - 26, Fig. 3, pins 35, Fig. 6, on the legs slipping into holes in the base, and a bracket 30 on the back stay taking over a pin 29 and being secured by a wing-nut. The base is collapsable, the members 25, 26 being pivotally connected at 28 and fitted with clips 32 which take over the member 24. The front member 24 of the base is fitted at each end with a pivoted bracket 37 carrying a roller 39 to facilitate movement over the ground, and the rollers are put out of action and the member 24 allowed to rest on the ground by adjusting wing nuts 42. A winch 6 is mounted upon the back-stay 2, and the drum is provided with means for ready attachment of either of the hoisting ropes 11, 19.
