Abstract
282,884. Midland Electric Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Barber, W. L. Sept. 29, 1926. Switches, quick-action, comprise a rocking shaft 11 carrying the movable contacts 12, a handle 14 loosely mounted on the shaft and a coil spring 24 the ends of which embrace a lug 14b on the handle and a lug 17b on a member 17 fixed to the shaft. When the handle is moved to close the switch the lug 14b engages and strains the spring 24 which in turn tends to rotate the member 17 and the shaft 11 but the latter rotation is prevented by a spring-pressed. plunger 19 engaging a recess 17d in the member 17 until a cam surface 14c on the handle depresses the plunger and releases the member 17. Positive actuation is also ensured by the lug 14b on the handle engaging a shoulder 17c on the member 17. The opening movement of the switch is similar excepting that the handle does not depress the plunger, the switch being held "on " either by the frictional engagement of the contact blades or by the plunger 19 engaging a shallow notch 17<e> in the member 17. The invention is applicable to single acting or to change-over switches. Contacts.-To secure alignment of contacts the shaft 11 is allowed limited longitudinal movement against the action of a spring.
