Abstract

Retractive switches; switches, quick-break; contacts; switches, latching and unlatching.-In switches of the type in which a contact sleeve 4 attached to a plunger 5 terminating in an operating handle is adapted to be pressed against the action of a spring 6 to move the sleeve into engagement with a divided base contact 2 separated by insulating divisions a, the spring 6 is connected between the plunger 5 and a screw 7 in such a manner that it exerts a torsional rotative pressure on the former. The contact sleeve 4 fits over a fixed insulating sleeve 3 and has axially disposed slots 9 terminating in right angle recesses 10 through which project pins 8 secured in the sleeve 3. The plunger 5 has to be rotated against the twist of the spring 6 before it can be depressed to cause the contact sleeve 4 to bridge the bass contact segments and when released the spring 6 rotates the sleeve 4 to lock it in the " on " position. A number of these switches may be mounted together on a motor car switchboard.
