Abstract

282,619. Liljenroth, F. G. Dec. 23, 1926, [Convention date]. Manures.-Fertilizers consisting mainly of ammonium phosphate are prepared by leaching calcium phosphate with a mixture of sulphuric acid and a thin solution of ammonium sulphate, the latter being produced from calcium sulphate (separated in the process) by ammonia and carbon dioxide. Molecular proportions are preferably three of phosphate, seven of acid and two of sulphate, but excess ammonium sulphate prepared as above may be used and remains in the product. Potassium salts, e.g. chloride may be added. Specification 275,843 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the preparation of soluble phosphates by leaching crude calcium phosphate with an amount of sulphuric acid less than that corresponding to the calcium in the phosphate to give monocalcium phosphate and free phosphoric acid. The lime is simultaneously or subsequently precipitated as sulphate, by alkali or ammonium sulphate, leaving a soluble phosphate in solution. After filtering, the solution is neutralized, preferably with ammonia, and evaporated. If potassium phosphate is desired, caustic potash or a salt of a volatile acid e.g. potassium carbonate or chloride is used as neutralizing agent. Double salts e.g. potassium ammonium phosphate may be prepared by neutralization by mixed salts. Excess sulphuric acid may be used in leaching the crude phosphate, and soluble sulphate and further crude phosphate added later. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
