Abstract

282,565. Nishida, H., and Shimada, K. Jan. 22, 1927. Oils, extracting, purifying, &c.-Oils resembling petroleum are obtained by destructively distilling a mixture of rubber scrap, vulcanized rubber waste, or their distillates, with one or more natural bleaching earths such as fuller's earth, floridin, or Japanese acid clay. The black powdery residue of mixed carbon and earth has strong decolorizing, deodorizing, and adsorbent powers. In an example 1 lb. of pulverized vulcanized rubber waste is mixed with 2-4 lb. of dehydrated Japanese acid clay, and distilled in an iron retort up to 350‹ C. The product is fractioned, and the fractions are purified by sulphuric acid and caustic soda.
