Abstract

1376341 Preparing bituminous materials NIPPON STEEL CORP 10 Nov 1971 [10 Nov 1970 (2) 21 Nov 1970] 52131/71 Heading C5E Bituminous materials are produced by mixing a coal tar or coal tar product with 0À3 to 2 parts by weight of a substantially non-aromatic petroleum hydrocarbon having an aniline point greater than 20‹ C., a distillation ratio from the initial distillation point to 200‹ C. of 0 to 30%, from 200‹ to 360‹ C. of 20 to 98% and above 360‹ C. of 0 to 80%, maintaining the mixture at 50-250‹ C. and separating off the formed bituminous material as a liquid. The mixture to be treated can be diluted with a light oil, kerosene or gasoline to reduce its viscosity. The above process can be carried out before, after or concurrently with treatment of the coal tar product with up to 10 parts by weight of sulphuric acid, e.g. waste sulphuric acid produced in the washing of petroleum products, per 100 parts of coal tar product.
