Saponaceous cleansing-compositions.-In shaving or other toilet cream of the kind composed of a higher fatty acid, a fat or fatty oil, added glycerine, and an alkali, ammonia is used as the alkali or a part thereof, and in such proportion that it is not more than equivalent to the free fatty acid used and that when the cream is stirred with water and phenol phthalein it shows an alkaline reaction due to the ammonia. In an example, 1 lb. of stearic acid and 1 pint of edible olive oil are melted together, 0.5 pint of glycerine and 1.3 pints of water are added, and then 2 fl. oz. of 0.880 ammonia diluted with 74 fl. oz. of water are added slowly with stirring. Perfume may be added. Part of the fat may be replaced by mineral oil.
