Emulsions, making. - Aqueous emulsions of vegetable and animal oils, fats, greases, waxes and the like are prepared in concentrated form by treating liquid resin or other resin with alkali to produce a neutral soap containing 39 per cent of resin, adding with agitation an equal portion of oil or the like, melted if necessary, and finally adding two parts of a soluble casein or like protein solution. This concentrated emulsion may be employed as an emulsifying agent for producing further quantities of emulsion by adding with agitation nine times the amount of water and subsequently an equal quantity of oil or the like after which the emulsion may be further diluted. The casein or like solution employed is preferably prepared by dispersing nine parts of the protein in eighty four parts of water and adding with stirring, but without heating, one part of caustic alkali in six parts of water. The Provisional Specification states that the oil may be added before the water during the preparation of the bulk of the emulsion and the finished emulsion may have china clay incorporated into it in the proportion 10-50 per cent of the weight of the oily ingredient.
