Screwing die-heads; chasers. - In a diehead for making pointed screws the chasers 2 are mounted in arcuate guides 3 in the head 1 and are moved during screwing by a cam acting on a. sleeve 5 carrying connecting links 4, the action being such that a line through the cutting points of the chasers forms an acute angle with the axis of the screw blank to cut the point, after which the line becomes parallel or nearly so with the axis for cutting the barrel and finally the chasers are moved clear of the blank. The position of the centre of the arcuate guides is chosen to give the screw the required profile and the die-head is traversed along the blank by a cam.
