Abstract

169,089. Herbert, Sir A., and Lloyd, A. H. Aug. 24, 1920. Taps for cutting threads in taper holes of the kind in which chasers B are fed along the tapered portion C<2> of a core and eventually pass on to a reduced part C<4>, are provided with a cam or scroll D which may be rotated against the action of a spring D<4> to thrust the chasers outwards. In order that a Toughing or finishing cut may be made, the tapered portion C<2> is provided with flats C<8>, and the core may be rotated through a small angle by a crank-pin E<2> which engages a groove in the core, the amount of rotation being limited by a stop-pin and groove. The inner surface of each chaser is preferably stepped at B<5>.
