Abstract
359,870. Screwing die-heads. MANNESMANNRÍHREN. WERKE, 1B, Berger Ufer, D³sseldorf, Germany. April 1, 1931, No. 9915. Convention date, April 3, 1930. [Class 83 (iii).] A die-head is constructed to take roughing and finishing cuts by separate sets of axially spaced chasers brought into action successively and automatically during the axial traverse of the die-head. Cutters for turning down the pipe &c. to be threaded may also be employed. Pivoted chaser holders 5 carry turning-tools 1, roughing chasers 2, and finishing chasers 3. Arms 8 and springs 7 maintain arms 9 on the holders against a conical bell 11. The die-head is given a single axial traverse under the control of a lead-screw and when the cutters have acted sufficiently the bell 11 is moved automatically to rock the tools 1 clear of the pipe and bring the chasers 2 into cutting position. A further movement of the bell brings the chasers 3 into action. When taper threads are required the bell is given a uniform movement during cutting in addition to the rapid movement to change the tools in operation.
