Abstract

280,759. Alexander, A. Feb. 21, 1927. Rackets. - A tennis or like racket of the kind in which the shoulder reinforcement is constituted by a wooden wedge inserted between the shoulders and a U-shaped strengthening piece secured to the top of the wedge and projecting therebeyond to overlap the adjacent surfaces of the rim is provided with a two-part wedge in which the grains of the two parts are substantially at right angles, the upper part presenting a long grained surface to the U-shaped strengthening piece. As shown, the upper part b of the wedge is united to the lower part c by a glued tongue and groove joint c<1>. The grain of the upper part runs transversely of the handle and frame, and the grain of the lower part runs longitudinally. The assembled wedge is glued to the frame members a<1>, and to the usual U-shaped strengthening piece d the lie of the grain assisting the adhesion of the glue.
