Abstract

280,262. British Dyestuffs Corporation, Ltd., Baddiley, J., and Chapman, E. July 15, 1926. Bandages.-The absorbent properties of cotton wadding, blotting paper, duplicating paper, &c. and such powders as kieselguhr which are commonly used as absorptive agents are greatly improved by impregnating them with a small proportion of a high molecular sulphonic acid or a salt thereof, e.g. sulphonic acids of aromatic, hydro-aromatic, aliphatic, aromatic, or polynuclear hydrocarbons. The materials are impregnated with an aqueous solution of a soluble salt and then dried. Sulphonic acids or salts of naphthalene containing one or more alpihatic side chains may be used, but the product obtained by sulphonating certain petroleum fractions and condensing alcohols according to the process described in Specification 274,611, [Class 81 (i), Disinfecting. &c.], is preferred.
